The Future Is Really Coming…

The future of the automotive industry seems to be one step closer than ever before. BMW have recently undergone a shareholders’ meeting and the result, was the outline of BMW’s and seemingly the whole of the automotive worlds’ future.

Some time ago, we released information regarding BMW’s 100th anniversary concept vehicle. Called the Vision Next 100, the concept cars aim was to be a self-driving car that still retains a personal connection between the driver and the car. But now, after the shareholders meeting, this concept car will soon become reality, and sooner than you think. The vehicle, which will be called the i Next, will be a mixture of the futuristic concepts recently released by BMW. BMW CEO Harald Krueger stated that, ‘In 2018, we will launch a BMW i8 Roadster. This will be followed in 2021 by the BMW i Next, our new innovation driver, with autonomous driving, digital connectivity, intelligent lightweight design, a totally new interior and ultimately bringing the next generation of electro-mobility to the road.’

So, it looks as if the future of the automotive market will be decided by 2021. But, between then, BMW are also updating both the i3 and the i8 vehicles. These updates will concentrate primarily on the electric range capacities and intelligent systems. By 2018, Kruger also wants every BMW vehicle to have autonomous parking installed as standard. This is evidently where the automotive market is heading and we are seeing it occur much quicker than ever expected.

It wasn’t too long ago that the i Next was simply a concept designed as a celebration by the luxury German outfit for their 100th anniversary. It is amazing that the concept is now in fact going to be produced in the not so distant future. It is a good time to release this information now as Google, Volvo and Tesla are all beginning to get their automotive foots in the intelligent autonomous market.
