BMW, the Company of the Future
BMW are a company of the future, there is no doubt about that. They have been producing a multitude of electric vehicles, producing futuristic vehicles like the i8 alongside plenty concept vehicles too. Recently though, BMW have been celebrating multiple anniversaries, and how have they been doing this we hear you ask? Well, by sharing what they believe to be the future of not only BMW, but of the automotive world too. They have recently shared the concept and released information stating that there will be a futuristic ‘i-Next’ vehicle for 2021 as a celebration of 100 years. But for 50 years in Italy, what have the company done to celebrate?
Well, by teaming up with Garage Italia Customs, there has been a beautifully wrapped one of a kind BMW i8. Named the BMW i8 Futurism Edition, this vehicle is based on Giacomo Balla’s 1909 painting Lampada ad Arco. The painting is of an electric-powered streetlight exploding with colour under a crescent moon and can now be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Many may think that the vehicle is an eye sore in this wrap, but it certainly represents the future, and over time it certainly does grow on you.
Lapo Elkann, the President and Founder of Garage Italia Customs stated that ‘there was immediate synergy with BMW Italia the very first time we met for the i8 Futurism Edition project. Garage Italia Customs and the BMW brand both share, in fact, all the values connected to technology evolution and the continuous search for innovation in their specific sectors. The BMW i8 Futurism Edition is a practice of style. It gave the Garage Italia Customs Maestros a chance to celebrate a car which is projected towards the future of mobility. At the same time, it honours Italian art with Giacomo Balla, who is a prominent figure of the Futurism movement.’
The car will luckily be able to show off its colourful feathers at the 2016 Mille Miglia event which takes place in the month of May.
