The new MINI Roadster
The MINI Roadster cost is a delightful looking car with quite a hefty price to go with it. Will the car live up to it’s promise?
The car costs £20,905. The car will come with optional packages including a Sport Pack, which costs £1,865, the Media Pack which costs £1,435, a Vision Pack which costs £695, a Harman Kardon stereo which costs £550, heated seats which cost £215 and a Chilli Pack, costing an extra £1,975.
The tax will cost £120 per year, as it emits just 139g/km. The insurance is quite high, standing at 32. Economy reaches 32.3 MPG, quite a respectable figure. The 1.6 litre engine is capable of achieving 181 BHP, quite a huge amount of power.
Could the timing of the car have been a bit better? Winter is approaching fast, with plenty of rain and bitter evenings during the autumn so far this winter. Who would want to purchase an open top car at this moment in time?
The car is highly customisable with the packages having something for everyone. A Sport Pack is perhaps just as good looks wise the top of the range John Cooper Works model. Aerodynamic body features from the JCW model are included. This helps the vehicle to look sportier and take on corners at speed as sportier cars would do. The JCW model is more powerful in terms of performance but perhaps not worth the upgrade from the standard model. That alone provides the type of performance that most would be satisfied with.
MINI has thought performance of the car through. They have included a superb sport button, giving the driver a terrific experience. The whole car turns into a race machine. The exhaust churns out a more aggressive noise, heard a lot better with the roof down. The hood retracts in only 10 seconds, sitting nicely behind the seats.
Practicality wise the vehicle doesn’t perform too badly. The vehicle has 240 litres of space within it’s boot. That is enough space to store essential items and some shopping.
We doubt the car will sell in masses to begin with as it is certainly not a winter car. Sales of the MINI Roadster are sure to pick up next summer when the best features of the vehicle can be exposed better.
