BMW release ‘The Escape’ – featuring Clive Owen
For the past fifteen years, BMW have been sporadically releasing short films showcasing their premium motors alongside the great and good of Hollywood acting talent; helmed by the most up and coming or assured directors, and leaving no expense spared in terms of stunts and special effects.
After a hiatus of a few years, the German car maker has just added their latest offering The Escape (shown below) to the already impressive roster of films.
BMW started commissioning the films back in the far-off pre-YouTube days of the early 2000s, when web video was still quite a pioneering concept. They gathered a fan base, and amassed over 10 million views. What stood them out from other mass market car advertising was the acquisition of top acting talent and directors.
The latest effort is no different with Clive Owen reprising his role as the driver, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp takes the reins as director. Other high profile acting talent featured includes, Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga.
This time, Owen’s mode of transport is the brand new 2017 BMW 5-Series sedan. The car, labelled G30 by BMW, is yet to be released commercially.
With special effects, stunts, and a healthy dose of sci-fi – exactly what you’d expect from District 9’s Blomkamp – the film equals anything you’d expect to see in Hollywood’s biggest budget productions. The Escape is a spectacular showcase for the forthcoming high performance car.
