M3 and M4 given a makeover by BMW in Las Vegas
The SEMA Motor Show in Las Vegas was the venue for BMW’s unveiling of its newly souped-up M3 and M4 – with added performance parts. The sporty upgrades will no doubt become ‘must haves’ for those wanting their regular versions to have a bit more grunt than normal.
So, what exactly was on display in Vegas? There was the white and M tricolour paint scheme, lending a decidedly sporty look. Also, some fairly radical carbon additions are noticeable, and above the boot, a rear spoiler has been fixed. Altogether, this will have improved the aerodynamics – no actual figures or stats have been released to support this – but most people opting to go for this makeover with their M3 or M4’s are likely to be doing so for purely aesthetic reasons.
The alloy wheels featured are part of a new ‘M Performance’ design. Measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 at the rear, they’re slightly lighter than standard.
With the interior, a snappy new steering wheel has been added. The finishing is part Alcantara, but suede has also been added in exactly the right places – most noticeably, the quarter-to-three position you’d normally be holding the steering wheel – and there’s also a motorsport-style centre marker and some new tricolour stitching.
Under the skin, there are plenty of specs to base your M3 or M4 on too: a titanium exhaust system, this will both lighten the car and alert your neighbours whenever you’re coming/going, and some adjustable coil over suspension, which is capable of dropping the car 20mm over the standard setting.
With the fantastic Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Mercedes C63 AMG soon to be joined by the new Audi RS4 in the M3’s competitor pool, it seems the perfect time to add a bit of honing for current customers. Prices for all these little bits and bobs have yet to be announced…
