The all new BMW M4 GTS: racing for the road
“Ground-breaking technology, race-track attitude”
The all new BMW M4 GTS is the high performance road car that feels like your driving on a race track. It’s the newest addition to the BMW legacy of exclusive special models, with a limited production of 700 models available worldwide. The M4 GTS features an M TwinPower Turbo in-line six-cylinder engine with water injection, for a significant torque boost and power output; the bhp jumps from 425 to 493 and the torque from 406lb-ft to 442lb-ft.
And with BMW’s claim the model features “motorsport technology for the road”, you can guarantee the numbers are very impressive. With 493bhp and a top speed reaching 190mph, the M4 GTS can make the sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds, which makes it the quickest road BMW ever produced. CO2 emissions rate at 194g/km and fuel economy numbers see the car consume 34mpg.
BMW have designed the innovative M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic to work specifically with their high-revving M engine. The system is a seven-speed double-clutch transmission that allows gear changing with no loss of power, automatic gear selection and an Auto Start-Stop function. Both the gear changing and the Drivelogic can be used manually or set automatically.
The M4 GTS has a lot of great kit already equipped, other aspects you can add for free and a range of extras available at additional costs. The iconic M light alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres come as standard, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. Optional priced items include: an 8.8-inch control display, head-up display, online entertainment packages, and the Internet.
The M4 GTS is the world’s first production car to feature OLED technology in the rear lights, which BMW say gives “this high-performance special model an utterly unique look when night falls”. The organic light-emitting diodes are similar to a smartphone screen light and are said to be the next big thing in the auto lighting industry.
The interior of the M4 GTS is where the race-car feel really kicks in. Traditional inside door handles are replaced with M stripe loop handles and the doors and side panels are made from light weight materials. If you opt for the Clubsport package (which is completely free!), a roll cage can be fitted in the back, so a six-point seat belt can be attached to the driver and front passenger seats for extra safety when racing.
Prices for the new BMW M4 GTS start at £121,770, with optional extras costing more. The model is expected to arrive in June 2016, but with only 700 available (30 in the UK) you better be quick… and have a spare £122,000 to spend.
